Just getting away…
In an attempt to breakaway from the city hustle, I sought a few days away to entertain my two highly spirited boys on farmlands during their mid term break. What I did not anticipate was nature calling me into deep stillness when we arrived.
My first awareness came as an oddness, as we drove off the tar road and onto gravel for the last 3-kilometer stretch to the chalet. It felt as if we were moving through a thin invisible membrane into a contained space off the radar of the world.
As we arrived in our hut built with stone, I sensed a desire to do nothing. I felt cut off from all electronic connections. My consistent need to get things done left me. The peacefulness of the place folded itself around me. There is a word for this today called tech detox.
I realised that my phone switched to international roaming. Where we were situated the Old Mill Drift farm was only separated from Lesotho by the Caledon River.
I also want to share about it’s history and purpose, a fact only known to scientists about dinosaurs on this farm, mysterious surroundings, the beauty of its nature and the vortex.
