What to do in Clarens – find yourself inside a vortex

Meeting ourselves is never an easy feat, but it is easier in some places than in others. There is a farm called the Old Mill Drift which is one of those places to find yourself in and then you do not have to wonder what to do in Clarens.

There is no me-time like finding yourself in nature. Continue to read and you will learn:

  • new facts about the Clarens area
  • get and overview of the Old Mill Drift
  • gain a new perspective about the energy surrounding this area

17 Kilometres outside of Clarens you will find the Old Mill Drift, a horse farm. This farm is run by a single woman and two junior staff members. Clarens itself is halfway between Durban, Johannesburg and Bloemfontein, situated in the Orange Free State, South Africa.

Just getting away…

In an attempt to breakaway from the city hustle, I sought a few days away to entertain my two highly spirited boys on farmlands during their mid term break. What I did not anticipate was nature calling me into deep stillness when we arrived.

My first awareness came as an oddness, as we drove off the tar road and onto gravel for the last 3-kilometer stretch to the chalet. It felt as if we were moving through a thin invisible membrane into a contained space off the radar of the world.

As we arrived in our hut built with stone, I sensed a desire to do nothing. I felt cut off from all electronic connections. My consistent need to get things done left me. The peacefulness of the place folded itself around me. There is a word for this today called tech detox.

I realised that my phone switched to international roaming. Where we were situated the Old Mill Drift farm was only separated from Lesotho by the Caledon River.

I also want to share about it’s history and purpose, a fact only known to scientists about dinosaurs on this farm, mysterious surroundings, the beauty of its nature and the vortex.

Hi Carol, I am not sure. I wrote about The Oldmilldrift because I loved being there. You can contact the owner at yvonne@oldmilldrift.co.za to check in about what is happening.
